Bamako : du 30 juillet au 3 août 2006

Welcome !

Bamako will host the 4th edition of the Mali Symposium on Applied Sciences from July 3oth to August 3rd 2006. Organized by the MaliWatch Initiative, the NEPAD Council, the Ministry of National Education of Mali and the Rectorate of the University of Bamako, with support from the Ministry of Malians Living Abroad and the Ministry of Culture and other national and international partners, this meeting will bring together researchers coming from countries across Africa, from North America, Europe and the Middle East, as well as the scientific community within Mali. The symposium is divided into twelve sessions: one special session, six mini-symposia organized according to scientific disciplines, one plenary session, and four special workshops. These events are planned to provide a complete and well-balanced program. A special workshop focuses on the state of higher education and research in Mali, ten years after the opening of the University of Bamako. With its unique charm and legendary hospitality, Bamako will host all of its guests in full conviviality and will once again serve as springboard for relaunching applied research in Africa. The umbrella theme, Regional Strategies on Higher Education and Applied Research, poses the critical need for collective thinking at the regional level to foster the creation of genuine networks and facilitate collobaration through common laboratories and doctoral programs. The stakes are well known, the joyful novelty is to have expatriate and resident scientists from the region assume the full responsibility for making the vision happen and changing the deal for higher education and scientific research in Mali and Africa, once and for all. We look forward to welcoming you in Bamako!
